The National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona (MNAT) is once again participating in Tarraco Viva with over twenty activities included in the program of the 26th edition of the Roman festival of Tarragona. The proposals include a new recreational format designed for both families and adults, as well as historical reconstruction, dramatized visits and itineraries to the different areas of the MNAT.
The Nostrum Mare activity is the main novelty of the Tarraco Viva program at the MNAT. It is a recreational activity that will introduce participants to the role of the Mediterranean Sea as a nexus of the Roman Empire and the importance of ship transport for trade. The activity is inspired by a board game, aimed at both families with children from eight years old and adults, and in which players are invited to become Roman merchants and get their products from one end of the Empire to the other.
Nostrum Mare is also the proposal with which the MNAT joins the weekend of Tarraco Viva at the Port, on May 18th and 19th, with various activities scheduled at the Moll de Costa of the Port of Tarragona. Both days, from 10 am to 1 pm, several game boards will be installed outside Tinglado 4, so that visitors can play following the instructions of the facilitators. Moreover, on Saturday 18th there will be two other sessions at 7 pm and 8 pm, as part of the Little Night of Museums.
Open doors all weekends
The trade in the Mediterranean area will once again be the major focus of the dramatized visit "Tiberius, trader of Mare Nostrum" that the MNAT coorganizes again with the Museum of the Port of Tarragona and that is thought to be held the weekends of the festival. Another collaboration that is back in the program is the shared itinerary at the Forum of the Colony and the Roman Theater, promoted jointly with the Museu d'Història de Tarragona, which will be held on Fridays 17th and 24th.
The historical reconstruction will be present in the Monumental Complex of Centcelles with the association Septimani Seniores, which, on May 18th and 19th, will carry out the activity Ex praedis ad venatores, inspired by the hunting scene of the mosaic of the Complex. In the Early Christian Necropolis, on the other hand, the Sant Fructuós Cultural Association will organize an itinerary that will connect the site with the two surrounding basilicas, while the Classics ICE of the URV will organize in Centcelles on May 15th the Ludi Constantinenses, with various activities for Latin students of 4th year of ESO.
The program is finally completed with two guided tours of the Roman Villa of Els Munts, as well as open days at the four centers that depend on the MNAT (Tinglado 4, Necropolis, Centcelles and Munts), which will allow visitors to visit all the sites free of charge during the two weekends of the festival. From May 24th to 26th, MNAT will also be present once again at the Fair of Rome in the Museums of the World, in the Camp de Mart, within the stand of the Agència Catalana de Patrimoni Cultural (Catalan Agency of Cultural Heritage).
All the activities programmed by the MNAT during the 26th edition of Tarraco Viva will be free of charge. With the exception of Nostrum Mare (which will be free access with limited capacity), reservations will be required. Reservations can be made, as of May 7th at 6 pm, through the MNAT website.
